What is artificial insemination?
Artificial insemination is when your doctor uses medical instruments to place sperm in the reproductive tract. This fertility service is often used by single women and lesbian couples who wish to get pregnant. It’s can also be used by couples who are using a sperm donor because of male fertility issues.
How can ovarian stimulation help with fertility?
Also known as ovulation induction, ovarian stimulation uses specific medications to stimulate the ovaries to produce a mature follicle, which is what releases a developed egg into the reproductive system.
For women with anovulation or infertility, sometimes the issue is that the follicles never reach maturity, and are therefore unable to release the ovum. These medications increase the follicles’ chance of reaching maturity and may increase your fertility as well. They have also shown benefits for women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
How do you know if your follicles are maturing?
The doctors at Rodeo Drive Women’s Health Center use ultrasound technology to monitor ovarian follicles. By using a transvaginal ultrasound, your doctor monitors the growth of your ovarian follicles in regular intervals over the period of a menstrual cycle. This allows your doctor to see if your follicles are growing properly, ensuring that an ovum is released and ovulation is occurring. This in conjunction with specific hormonal tests can help determine where you are in your reproductive age.
This procedure is also vital during in vitro fertilization (IVF) assessment, and timing and can help point your doctor in the right direction regarding your fertility treatment. If you’re suffering from fertility issues, it’s time to get help. Contact the team at Rodeo Drive Women’s Health Center to schedule your initial consultation today.
